The Philadelphia National Bank (PNB) was the direct successor of The Philadelphia Bank, organized on August 3, 1803 and chartered on March 5, 1804. The Citizens National Bank was formed as a locally managed bank on March 28, 1892. Its primary work appears to have been monetary. The most active committees of the board were the discount and exchange committees. By 1925 the bank had become involved in real estate and consumer financing.
